Cognitive Science Degree Requirements

Cognitive Science is part of the UC Davis College of Letters and Science. Both a Bachelor of Arts and two Bachelor of Science degrees are available.

BACHELOR OF ARTS

The Bachelor of Arts in Cognitive Science includes courses from Psychology, Philosophy, Linguistics and Statistics. This major gives a sufficient introduction to Cognitive Science as a theoretical subject, but does not require an in depth understanding of biology or calculus.

Computational Emphasis

The Bachelor of Science in Cognitive Science with a Computational Emphasis includes courses from Philosophy, Computer Science, Linguistics, and Psychology. It requires a thorough understanding of calculus and computer science, while also giving a broad overview of Cognitive Science theory.

Neuroscience Emphasis

The Bachelor of Science in Cognitive Science with a Neuroscience Emphasis includes courses from Philosophy, Neurobiology, Physiology & Behavior, Linguistics, and Psychology. It requires a thorough understanding of calculus, biology, and physics, while also giving a broad overview of Cognitive Science theory.

What counts as "any upper division Cognitive Science Course"?

Starting with the incoming Fall 2019 class, we will only be allowing the courses from the following list to be used to fulfill the "any upper division Cognitive Science" course requirement included in each of our major emphases.
